The book, the third edition of Bright Futures: Guidelines for Health Supervision of Infants, Children and Adolescents (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2007), was co-edited by local pediatrician Joseph Hagan, M.D., clinical professor of pediatrics, Judith Shaw, Ed.D., M.P.H., R.N., research associate professor of pediatrics and executive director of the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program (VCHIP), and Paula Duncan, M.D., clinical professor of pediatrics, medical director of the Area Health Education Centers program and VCHIP youth health director. Bright Futures are the recommendations for health promotion and disease prevention used by primary care practitioners and public health professionals, insurers and parents to promote optimal health for infants, children and adolescents. The book was a Silver Medalist in the Education/Academic/Teaching category. The 12th Annual IPPY Awards will be presented in Los Angeles on May 30th.
